The perimenopause transition can be a challenging time in a woman's life. Many women are confused about how they are supposed to feel as they transition from the reproductive stage of their lives to being postmenopausal. Each woman experiences perimenopause differently.

Menopause can only be declared after a woman does not have a menstrual bleed for 12 consecutive months. The symptoms of fluctuating hormones can be experienced years before and after menopause. Hot flashes and night sweats are known as cardinal symptoms of menopause, but they are not the only symptoms of menopause. Women can also experience insomnia, interrupted sleep, changes in mood, dry skin, low libido, pain during sexual intercourse, and more.

What to Expect?

Our menopause consultations are designed to provide you provide you with education and support that you need to take control of your perimenopausal journey. We will listen to how you are experiencing the menopause transition so far. We thrive to help you understand why you feel the way that you do and provide you with evidence-based health advice.

You will need to fill out the External link opens in new tab or windowMenopause Consultation Intake Form. It asks about your medical conditions, personal and family medical history, the medications that you take, and details about your menstrual cycles and your perimenopause journey. Once the form is submitted, Linda will review the information. If she feels that bloodwork is needed, she will send you a requisition to have completed and book an appointment.

The appointment typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Linda will ask additional questions to clarify your symptoms. She will provide explanations about WHY you feel this way and an outline of benefits and risks of the treatment options available will be presented. A plan will be created to help you down a path to feel better. If appropriate, Linda can prescribe medications to help alleviate the perimenopausal symptoms. A summary of the discussion will be provided to you after your appointment, and a consultation report will be provided to your family physician.

Following the plan developed during the appointment, Linda will continue to follow up with you via phone or in-person.

What will this cost me?

The cost for the appointment is $150.

Unfortunately, there is no public funding for menopause services outside of the Menopause Clinic at the Grey Nuns hospital at this time.
